PERSONAL ASSISTANT / LEGAL SECRETARY – ESTATE ADMINISTRATION

Harmans is a progressive Canterbury law firm that has served the region for over 130 years.  Our modern offices are located in both the central city and in Papanui. 

We have an opportunity for a full time Personal Assistant/Legal Secretary to assist our Estate Administration team in our Papanui office. 

Prior experience in a estate work would be an advantage but not essential however secretarial and administrative experience is required.  The applicant also needs to have the following attributes: 

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to produce work of a high standard
  • Ability to use initiative
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • A genuine team player
  • Punctual and professional
  • Dictaphone and copy typing experience
  • Excellent knowledge and use of Microsoft Word, Excel etc
  • Experience in InfinityLaw is desirable but not essential 

Responsibilities for this role will include maintaining client files,  attending to daily correspondence, diary management, preparing bills and reporting correspondence, preparing basic letters and documents.  A full position description will be provided on request.

LEGAL RECEPTIONIST

We have a set up a brand new office in the central city and are looking for an afternoon receptionist to work from 1.00pm to 5.30pm.  Prior reception and legal experience would be an advantage.

Property and commercial / private client lawyer

A new position is available in our commercial/private client team for an ambitious Lawyer with 2-3 years post-admission experience who thrives on a varied diet of work.  As we value strong relationships with clients, the successful candidate will possess excellent inter-personal and communication skills and a desire to build a practice.  You will work with appropriate autonomy but closely in conjunction with two partners whose diverse practice areas include conveyancing, trusts and commercial transactional work.

The applicant will have a commercial property focus and be involved in other commercial transactional work such as business sales and franchising.  Ideally candidates for this role should have attained a commerce degree as well as law.

Litigation Lawyer 

We are looking for a senior litigation lawyer with approximately 5 years post admission experience primarily in the civil and commercial litigation area. The successful candidate will have excellent academic ability in the law, proven advocacy, negotiation and drafting skills and be innovative in resolving disputes in the best interests of our clients.  Handling all types of disputes, our team is particularly renowned in the insolvency area, estate and trust litigation, lease disputes, insurance and construction matters and employment issues.

The work will include immediate client contact, autonomous file handling - with partner supervision and assistance where appropriate and court appearances.  Opportunities exist for future advancement within the firm for the right individual.
