December Client Newsletter

Posted by on 15 December 2017 | Comments

As another year draws near to an end it's time to reflect on a busy twelve months!

We've had a year full of exciting new ventures for clients, and the start of new chapters for many of our staff.

With the summer break about to begin we'd like to wish all of our clients a very Merry Christmas.

We look forward to seeing you all again in 2018.

  Christmas Hours

Our office closes on Friday 22 December at 3.00pm and will fully reopen 8.30am Monday 15 January 2018.

Client Identification

From Mid 2018 Lawyers are being incorporated into the AML/CFT regime (more formally known as the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009).

Under the new regime, we will be required to positively identify clients by sighting their photo ID’s and obtaining proof of their addresses. This is all part of the “know your client” ethos, the idea being that better we know our clients, the easier it will be to detect possible money laundering or financing of terrorism scenarios. Please note that the requirement to positively identify our clients applies to all clients, including long standing clients of the firm and we are not permitted to make exceptions. We are not required to proactively go back through our client database and ask for historic information, but we will need to comply with the regime as clients instruct us on any matter in the future. Once clients have had their ID and proof of address verified, they will not need to do it again (unless they have changed their address).

In order to ensure we are compliant with the regime and our systems operating efficiently, we intend to start phasing in the new requirements for proof of ID and address from early 2018. Please do not be offended if we request this information from you.

We will provide you with further updates next year.
