The partners and staff of Harmans wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.

December 2021

A message from our Managing Partner, Mark Sherry.

The summer break is nearly upon us and we are all looking forward to a good, relaxing holiday.  It is fair to say that 2021 has been an interesting year.  I don’t need to delve into matters that are happening locally and globally to reflect that we have all been affected and disrupted in some way over the last twelve months.  Hopefully 2022 sees things settle down and we can move forward in a positive and proactive way.

On the Harmans front we have had another busy and productive year.  Amongst all the legal work completed we have also made the move to bring those members of our team who were at Papanui into our Central City office, and the fitout project and subsequent move have gone brilliantly.  We have said goodbye to a few staff members, but we have recruited well and have an excellent team in place to take care of your legal needs in 2022 and beyond.

I’d like to thank all our loyal clients and referrers for their support in 2021.  I’d also like to give a special thanks to all the Harmans team for their efforts this year.  I know that at different stages during lockdowns and fitouts we have had to work in “interesting” circumstances, but through all these challenges you have showed dedication and professionalism.

Finally, I need to take this opportunity to acknowledge the passing of two former Harmans partners this year.  Longstanding clients of the firm may well remember Peter Harman and Philip Baird.  Both Peter and Philip left their marks on the firm during their times here and we offer our sincere condolences to the Harman and Baird families.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe Christmas and New Year break.  Meri Kirihimete.

Covid-19 Vaccination Mandates, Exemptions and Employment Law.

On 3 December 2021, the Covid-19 Protection Framework (known as the Traffic Light system) replaced the Covid-19 Alert Level system that New Zealand was previously operating under.

The Covid-19 Protection Framework places a heavy emphasis on a person’s vaccination status and it imposes different obligations and restrictions on various businesses at each traffic light setting. As a result, it is important that both employers and employees alike understand their rights and obligations under this new system.

Our employment experts have put together a comprehensive guide on the vaccine mandates, exemptions and what you need to know as an employer - click here to view.
