Colin is one of the leaders of our family law team and now has over 13 years’ experience in the area of family law. He specialises in the protection of assets prior to a relationship and the division of assets upon separation including personally owned assets, companies and trusts together with all care of children disputes and family violence matters.
Colin was a recipient of a 2006 Harmans’ Summer Clerk Scholarship and completed his double degree in Law with Honours and a BA, majoring in Political Science at Canterbury University. He joined Harmans the following year.
Colin was elected as Chairperson of the Christchurch Family Courts Association in 2015 and again in 2016. In March 2015 Colin was appointed Convenor of the Canterbury-Westland Family Law Committee, having served on that committee since 2011. Following the conclusion of Colin’s term as Convenor in 2019, he was appointed by the New Zealand Family Law Section as their Canterbury-Westland Regional Representative.
In 2018/2019 Colin was invited to sit on the Ministry of Justice’s Christchurch Family Justice Sector Network Group, a new group comprising Ministry of Justice staff, a Family Court Judge, a District Health Board representative, Police, Legal Aid and Oranga Tamariki. The group was formed with a view to achieving a more consistent approach nationally towards the resolution of family justice issues.
Colin is a keen sportsman, having captained and played for many representative hockey teams. He plays golf, squash, tennis and is a keen tramper. Colin also enjoys music, movies and spending time with his family and friends.
