Seaton became a partner at Harmans in 1976, remaining as a partner until November of 2020, when he was appointed as a practising consultant. After an initial grounding in litigation he concentrated on establishing a commercial and conveyancing client base.
His areas of practice include business and commercial transactions, commercial and residential property, leasing, subdivisions, trusts and estate planning.
Seaton's special interest and expertise is advising clients in the hospitality industry. He has come to act for the owners and operators of hotels, motels, motor inns, restaurants and other tourist-related industries. He serves clients in Christchurch and around the country.
Seaton has presented seminars in conjunction with other professionals working in the hospitality industry. He is a member of Hospitality New Zealand and has been a member of the National Board since October 2017, more recently he has developed his interests in the areas of trust law and estate planning and heads the firm's trusts team.
Seaton keeps fit by cycling and exercising at the gym. His other spare time interests include shooting, and maintaining the small rural property that he owns at Irwell, near Christchurch.
